UESHIMA MUSEUM to Open in Shibuya in June 2024 - A New Perspective Connecting the Future through Contemporary Art

In June 2024, UESHIMA MUSEUM will open to the public in Shibuya, Tokyo, a city that continues to develop as a crossroads of diverse cultures. The museum will exhibit selected contemporary art pieces from UESHIMA COLLECTION, a collection of over 650 works by a wide range of domestic and international artists based on the theme of "contemporaneity" and aligned with various themes.

Located on the former site of the British School in Tokyo within Shibuya Kyoiku Gakuen, UESHIMA MUSEUM aims to serve not only as an exhibition space but also as a venue for educational and cultural promotion, providing various opportunities for the development of the next generation of artists, curators, and critics.

VISION

To be a space for contemplating "contemporaneity" through art.

MISSION

Artistic expression, which seamlessly transcends boundaries and is diverse, personal, and social, has created numerous possibilities beyond people's imagination. Reflecting on art means reflecting on our past, present, and future. UESHIMA MUSEUM sees the significance and mission of collecting artworks to cultivate true freedom of imagination and innovative thinking, as well as to pass on the perspectives and challenges artists present through their works to the next generation.

Through a wide range of activities including creating opportunities to support young artists and collaborating with educational institutions, the museum aims to contribute to the revitalization of the art scene and aspire to embody "contemporaneity" while living in society.
